Water-based mud (WBM) is a crucial component in oil and gas drilling, offering numerous benefits such as reduced formation damage, improved pressure management, and cost efficiency. One of the leading WBM systems in the industry is Rediguard™, known for its high performance and eco-friendly properties.
Rediguard™ is a specialised WBM system designed to optimize drilling operations by reducing formation damage and providing better pressure management. This system is particularly beneficial for operators seeking to enhance drilling efficiency while maintaining environmental safety.
Rediguard™ offers optimised hole cleaning efficiency, which results in faster rates of penetration (ROP). This efficiency ensures that drill cuttings are effectively transported out of the wellbore, maintaining a clean and stable drilling environment.
One of the standout features of Rediguard™ is its zero solids loading capability, which significantly reduces torque and drag on the drill string. This reduction leads to lower equivalent circulating densities (ECDs) and minimizes the risk of downhole issues, such as stuck pipe and lost circulation.
Rediguard™ enhances clay and shale encapsulation, preventing these formations from swelling and causing wellbore instability. This encapsulation is crucial for maintaining the integrity of the wellbore, especially in formations prone to reactive clays and shales.
By forming its own filter cake immediately, Rediguard™ stabilises the formation before solids have a chance to deposit. This quick filter cake formation acts as a screen, reducing formation damage and improving the quality of logs. The result is better data acquisition and more accurate formation evaluation.
Rediguard™ is safe and eco-friendly, making it an ideal choice for environmentally conscious drilling operations. Its ability to form a filter cake quickly not only stabilizes the formation but also minimizes the environmental impact by reducing the need for additional chemicals and additives.
In addition to its technical benefits, Rediguard™ offers significant cost savings. Its efficiency in hole cleaning, reduced torque and drag, and improved pressure management contribute to lower operational costs and increased drilling performance.
Rediguard™ represents a significant advancement in water-based mud technology for oil and gas drilling. Its high-performance properties, environmental safety, and cost efficiency make it an invaluable asset in enhancing drilling operations and maintaining wellbore integrity.

Despite numerous cleanings, the productivity of the Reverse Osmosis plant would not recover from severe membrane fouling. The membrane autopsy revealed that the ferric hydroxide was seeding
silica polymerization and that even while the ferric hydroxide was removed, the silica scaling was continuing to grow.
The plant was experiencing weekly shutdowns for fiber clean up (~ 3 kg bags of matted slurry is cleaned per week). The shut downs were costly as they reduce plant availability for production.
The International Maritime Organisation (IMO) regulation, known as IMO 2020 was the the largest change in regulation relating to marine fuels impacting 75% of the fuel used by the shipping industry.
