Lost Circulation Materials (LCMs) are crucial in oil and gas drilling to address the issue of lost circulation, enhance formation integrity, and improve overall wellbore stability. Among the top-performing LCMs are Frac-Attack® and RediSeal™, each offering unique benefits for drilling operations.
Frac-Attack® is a diatomaceous earth blend specifically designed to provide a complete seal, thereby improving formation integrity. This high fluid-loss squeeze pill is compatible with all mud systems and does not require pre-spots, spacers, activators, retarders, or accelerators. It enhances formation integrity in casing shoes and is effective in both onshore and offshore applications.
One of the significant advantages of Frac-Attack® is its versatility. It has been successfully pumped through all measurement-while-drilling (MWD), logging-while-drilling (LWD), and rotary-steerable system (RWD) motors and small bits. As a fast-acting, single-sack lost circulation solution, Frac-Attack® is proven effective in controlling underground cross flows and blowouts, usually in just one application.
RediSeal™ is a high fluid-loss squeeze pill application designed to form a tighter seal and significantly decrease leak-off. This new acid-soluble squeeze pill increases leak-off hesitation by improving the compressive strength of the filter cake, making it a cost-effective method for enhancing formation integrity.
RediSeal™ works through a fracture simulation rig that uses a hydraulic arm to pressurize a polycarbonate cylinder. Large polished rocks are used as test media to simulate large fractures in the formation. The hesitation squeeze technique evaluates the bridgeability of the LCM pill, measuring the time it takes for pressure to bleed back after a squeeze and the pressure stabilization point.
On average, RediSeal™ improves the compressive strength of filter cakes to about 150-400 psi, thereby increasing leak-off hesitation and providing a reliable solution for lost circulation.
The use of LCMs like Frac-Attack® and RediSeal™ in oil and gas drilling offers numerous benefits, including enhanced formation integrity, improved wellbore stability, and effective control of lost circulation. These products provide reliable and efficient solutions, ensuring successful drilling operations in various challenging environments.
Frac-Attack® and RediSeal™ represent significant advancements in LCM technology for oil and gas drilling. Their unique properties and proven effectiveness make them invaluable assets in addressing lost circulation and maintaining wellbore integrity.

Despite numerous cleanings, the productivity of the Reverse Osmosis plant would not recover from severe membrane fouling. The membrane autopsy revealed that the ferric hydroxide was seeding
silica polymerization and that even while the ferric hydroxide was removed, the silica scaling was continuing to grow.
The plant was experiencing weekly shutdowns for fiber clean up (~ 3 kg bags of matted slurry is cleaned per week). The shut downs were costly as they reduce plant availability for production.
The International Maritime Organisation (IMO) regulation, known as IMO 2020 was the the largest change in regulation relating to marine fuels impacting 75% of the fuel used by the shipping industry.
