Industry Briefing 2018: Latest Developments in Fuel Management

Our fifth annual Fuel Management industry briefing last Tuesday in Melbourne received high praise from delegates. Hosted with our partner Innospec, the informative briefing gave an insight into the latest developments in fuel management.

Held at Rydges Melbourne the primary goal of the briefing was to share important technical and market information and also to provide a platform to network and share knowledge with key fuel industry stakeholders.

Fiona Beynon, Director of the Fuel Policy Section at the Australian Government Department of Environment and Energy, updated the audience on the “Better Fuels for Cleaner Air – Draft Regulation Impact Statement”. She reviewed the proposed changes to the Fuel Quality Standards, followed by a Q&A session.

Our overseas speaker from Innospec – Simon Mulqueen, Director of Technical Services, EMEA and ASPAC, shared interesting developments in the diesel and gasoline performance additive space, including new Euro emissions standards, performance testing and lubricity improver development.

Simon detailed how the evolution of increasingly stringent emissions requirements have resulted in a significant change in fuel and engine technology. Diesel deposit formation remains an active area of research and recent changes in engine and vehicle technology have resulted in the reporting of new deposit phenomena. Furthermore, advances in gasoline injection systems referred to as GDI (Gasoline Direct Injection) has created challenges for OEM’s regarding longer-term fuel system performance.

Simon explained how fuel additive technology is continually evolving to ensure optimum performance is provided to the entire diesel and gasoline vehicle fleet.

The day was hosted by Michael Lawrence (A S Harrison & Co General Manager) and further presentations from Simon Ing Soon Tan (Innospec Regional Sales Director Asia Pacific) and the A S Harrison & Co team were very well received.

Post-briefing, attendees had the opportunity to attend a relaxed networking session followed by dinner.

Delegates were treated to a host of other relevant information including;

  • A S Harrison & Co corporate position within the fuel industry
  • Fuel usage in Australia, vehicle types, volumes & growth
  • Diesel and jet fuel conductivity management
  • Reducing fuel consumption with advanced lubricant technology
  • Overview of biological problems and corrosion
  • A S Harrison & Co engineering capabilities
  • Additive handling requirements for jet fuel EI/JIG 1530 overview
