VpCI®-641 from Cortec® Corporation is an innovative, environmentally safe corrosion inhibitor designed for hydrotesting and freshwater-based industrial systems. As a water-based, liquid rust preventative, VpCI®-641 offers powerful protection for both ferrous and non-ferrous metals—making it ideal for carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, copper and brass components.
Formulated with all-organic ingredients, VpCI®-641 contains no nitrites or phosphates and meets USDA Certified Biobased Product standards. Surpassing the 53% minimum biobased content requirement for corrosion preventatives, this product is both effective and sustainable.
VpCI®-641 is non-toxic, non-flammable, readily soluble in water and designed to perform efficiently even at very low concentrations (300–750 ppm in hydrotesting scenarios). Its economical formulation makes it ideal for large-scale industrial use.
A key advantage of VpCI®-641 is its dual-action protection. It combines contact and vapor-phase corrosion inhibitors (VpCI® technology) to safeguard metal surfaces—even those in partially filled spaces. This vapor-phase mechanism ensures that hard-to-reach areas receive protection without direct surface contact.
Typical applications include hydrostatic testing of pipelines, tanks and pressure vessels using fresh water. It may also be suitable for certain freshwater closed-loop cooling systems. While VpCI®-641 delivers excellent short-term protection during and immediately after testing, it should be paired with VpCI® powders for long-term preservation.
VpCI®-641 performs across a broad temperature range (up to 203°F / 95°C), is easy to dispose of and comes in multiple packaging sizes—5-gallon containers, 55-gallon drums, totes and bulk options—making it flexible for various industrial needs.
