Polybutene in Lubricant Additives

A S Harrison & Co are the official distributor for Daelim Polybutene in Australia and New Zealand.

Polybutene (PIB)– polymeric molecule

Daelim Polybutene is the largest Polybutene manufacturer in the global market with a staggering 192,000 MTA capacity. As a leading company in the Korean petrochemical industry, Daelim has been researching and developing polybutene since 1986. By employing the state of the art technology, Daelim has become the only provider in the world who is able to manufacture both C-PB and HRPB in a single plant.

Partnering with Daelim ensures A S Harrison & Co has the supply capacity to confidently meet the needs of our Australian customers.

About Polybutene

Polybutene is a polymeric molecule that can be manufactured with various chain lengths. These polymers can be dissolved into oils in order to impart favourable properties on finished lubricants.

Polybutenes come in various viscosity grades. They can be used to thicken oils to achieve the right final viscosity. PIBs can also exhibit high oxidation stability, tackiness and dispersant characteristics. In some applications, this can be used as a substitute for API Group I Brightstock or other high viscosity oils.

Physical Properties

Colour – Daelim Polybutene is generally water-white, reaching less than 50 on APHA colour scale (Typically less than 10). The product remains very stable after being prolonged exposure to UV light. Daelim Polybutene is more stable than conventional mineral oil with same APHA colour.

Tackiness – Increases as the molecular weight and viscosity increase.

Purity & Toxicity  – Daelim Polybutene has neither additive nor chlorine & sulphur content hence it is famous for high purity and non-toxic character.

Stability  – Daelim Polybutene is chemically, therefore, it contains excellent stability to heat and UV radiation.

Viscosity  – Viscosity of Daelim Polybutene that is measured by Cannon-Fensky capillary viscometer and Kinematic viscosity is between 10 and 5,000cSt at 100℃. As the average molecular weight rises up, kinematic viscosity increases.
