Lubricant AdditivesComponentsMetal Deactivators

Metal Deactivators

Metal deactivators are oil additives used to deactivate metal ions present in lubricating oils.

Introduced by Wear and Corrosion

The metal ions are introduced to the oil by wear and corrosion due to acids of combustion and acidic oxidation products attacking the surfaces of metal parts.

Deactivating Metal Ions

Metal deactivators prevent deterioration of the oil by deactivating metal ions that can act as catalysts for undesirable side reactions.
